I purchased directly from a gentleman who traveled to Congo and befriended a chief usually African Wood Masks on the market were made for tourists and those used in ceremonies are not typically for sale. He ( the man we purchased from ) was only interested in an authentic one so it took him weeks, he asked many times to his friend until he convinced him and he was able to acquire this mask and it has been verified to have been used.
As I purchased from an individual that worked undercover for Government contractors hence he demanded to keep his name confidential so I can’t provide provenance.
This is a highly collectible vintage piece not just of African Art but Cultural and Religious Relevance
