Antique Chinese Green Glazed Heavy Ceramic Chopstick Holder – or Wall Pocket Planter/Vase. There is no marking on the vase but there is a Chinese inscription on the front design. Measures 7.75” x 5” x 2.75”. Purchased at an antique store in the early 90s I used it for as a kitchen utensils holder. In researching this item, it appears it was originally designed to hold chopsticks. Could be used as a wall pocket. Beautiful rich dark green color, no fading, chips or cracks. Uneven glaze given its age and primitive design.
This chopsticks holder is covered in vivid dark green glaze with a hole in the top for mounting. Chopsticks are significant accessories in China and were often included in a bride’s dowry because the word for chopsticks is a pun for “speedy arrival of sons.” Please see photos for any condition concerns (the photos using a flash are to give you a better view but don’t reflect accurate color.
